It is definitely one of my favourite times of the year because it means the Southern Hemisphere is in the full swing of Autumn. In Tasmania we are blessed with wonderful Autumn colours and gentle warm days as we brace ourselves for the winter months. Easter is usually one of our busiest times of year as we make our popular vintage book paper covered eggs and smaller nests for various stockists and for our own bigcartel store. This year, however, we will only be making a small supply of our nests and eggs due to my troublesome neck and back issues that have been plaguing me for the last few months. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjIwlEKKGvD0kYKlCPAjMcEAZYIdt8GZWsOr-ZyIzBcllInRybcKyZyHaFgX2Pd7rtcQ07OWRJjJTqFNYj9rCWr7UThYVpmOhkZFXfMsQyWM0ZcSLK3i17C-qZdD4iQtHau4io3s5bEzsLdIX86-RBIgTRX39BNEjKnRnY2W9HMCXMdANeyuEBXXpO0Fnit" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="923" data-original-width="783" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjIwlEKKGvD0kYKlCPAjMcEAZYIdt8GZWsOr-ZyIzBcllInRybcKyZyHaFgX2Pd7rtcQ07OWRJjJTqFNYj9rCWr7UThYVpmOhkZFXfMsQyWM0ZcSLK3i17C-qZdD4iQtHau4io3s5bEzsLdIX86-RBIgTRX39BNEjKnRnY2W9HMCXMdANeyuEBXXpO0Fnit" width="204" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjnj8vcMtxEUYewK61DlaqwOaoU-nzVnfU9_WR6DAJgG7YvaxsMDoSFCYJMUa9RWpkU1XeYxG6vL18IoTa1yYBH-zBGmmpiVB3EK4Y_Hxj6D0EnNm9Loz8RbiHC1rP0k6cjy-Hk343qrkNLKjVXlFi0tnMkQLIzJQ-wIiJnFGYFBxuzBhCJcPCHWUw7f-ju" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" data-original-height="774" data-original-width="616" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEjnj8vcMtxEUYewK61DlaqwOaoU-nzVnfU9_WR6DAJgG7YvaxsMDoSFCYJMUa9RWpkU1XeYxG6vL18IoTa1yYBH-zBGmmpiVB3EK4Y_Hxj6D0EnNm9Loz8RbiHC1rP0k6cjy-Hk343qrkNLKjVXlFi0tnMkQLIzJQ-wIiJnFGYFBxuzBhCJcPCHWUw7f-ju" width="191" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Our apologies to those who have been waiting for new stock to arrive in our online store for Easter but you will be able to find a small number of our handmade eggs and nests and stamped stones at the lovely store in Cygnet, Tasmania - Cuckoo Etc. We have just completed a large box of our popular vintage paper baubles for our lovely stockist "Cuckoo" in Cygnet recently but we are now putting a hold on any other large orders just for this year. Due to back and neck problems I am not up to the intense workout they receive when making all our handmade products this year. We are, however, still selling through our online Bigcartel shop for smaller orders and we have just created a new lux gift tag using gold lustre paint gently echoing a Christmas tree shape, that we hope you will enjoy. </p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4LNd7CmHy0g8gw7_hdhccS1CsruW3SDwuyEzdLIRjkmPvPHnb-oCLXm3ZErfIwTo5zi-CWLgo2GHWMeWDr0nfyDqH1f1yZ2n26muLLlCx3oHhMdMkyX9jBGDOw3yIXq6sv1wenym1HcadXjiJIyy3vac2ReWZTUhivbPQ3Xij7_XORWUDmZ3g8-UFYHmK/s2799/IMG_6824.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2799" data-original-width="2741" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4LNd7CmHy0g8gw7_hdhccS1CsruW3SDwuyEzdLIRjkmPvPHnb-oCLXm3ZErfIwTo5zi-CWLgo2GHWMeWDr0nfyDqH1f1yZ2n26muLLlCx3oHhMdMkyX9jBGDOw3yIXq6sv1wenym1HcadXjiJIyy3vac2ReWZTUhivbPQ3Xij7_XORWUDmZ3g8-UFYHmK/s320/IMG_6824.jpeg" width="313" /></a></div><p></p><p>I have also been making a family of quirky reindeer made from birch twigs that I will show you in our next post. There is something so special about a natural Christmas of handmade decorations and cards isn't there. We also have a small range of hand painted Christmas tree cards available online this year too. </p><p>We hope the lead up to the Christmas season is a peaceful one for you. Look after yourselves and enjoy that lovely festive feeling that is beginning to take a hold on us. xx</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>two in a teacuphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18084982765685984412noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8998178740127639870.post-24440930948877085962023-07-15T00:10:00.000-07:002023-07-15T00:10:18.961-07:00Winter - thinking time<p>Winter has always been a good time to hunker down, take a moment to plan, recalibrate and recharge ready for all the new beginnings in Spring - just like much of nature does. This winter we have put our making on hold due to my ongoing neck and back issues, so I am hoping that this time will provide a chance to heal and come right! It may also mean that I need to change my creative output to something less problematic for my neck and back issues too I suppose. But change is often a good thing. </p><p>In the meantime I have been able to document some site visits to the midlands in Tasmania where I have been commissioned to create a large scale eagles nest. More on this to come in future posts, but it has been lovely to work on a small watercolour 'diary' of this projects progress to date.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuUP9C8R96ubnPPcBJH5iGyjqnDd1hJxm-W59a4YhVIvpbfc1XscnNYWqr5Lht_dNfbQTHOvgrkqy1672o98v7WTApZRwneIdmte1vXrsfOpfAt6sh9BzokjYU_4VYMPEjGdDdHflYVoiy6eJcQOJX-lIoZ8zhQlymC5eHsnZLQJVT8o2aNkwtgcjWjb1U/s2997/IMG_5879.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2997" data-original-width="2997" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhuUP9C8R96ubnPPcBJH5iGyjqnDd1hJxm-W59a4YhVIvpbfc1XscnNYWqr5Lht_dNfbQTHOvgrkqy1672o98v7WTApZRwneIdmte1vXrsfOpfAt6sh9BzokjYU_4VYMPEjGdDdHflYVoiy6eJcQOJX-lIoZ8zhQlymC5eHsnZLQJVT8o2aNkwtgcjWjb1U/s320/IMG_5879.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><p>We hope those of you who are in the Southern Hemisphere are staying warm and toasty this winter and that everyone, where ever you are, has their creative juices flowing with inspiration. </p><p>xx</p><p><br /></p>two in a teacuphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18084982765685984412noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8998178740127639870.post-59312073959445501252023-05-05T01:53:00.002-07:002023-05-05T01:54:59.445-07:00Autumn Musings<p>As Autumn draws to a close in the southern hemisphere this month, we have been thinking about all the wonderful things we love about this season. The fire has begun to be lit each day as the temperature is dropping and the leaves we have collected on our walks are pressing under books. At the end of our street we have a large old Rowen tree which has been absolutely bursting with divinely coloured leaves. Our own garden has been covered in a carpet of golden leaves from our paper birch tree and the Virginia creeper put on a splendid crimson display on our deck. Don't you just love the colours of nature!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTItWZ3pL0GekRbsr7aixpSIIVPi1obOhGeaeDSsti3KcaCT_CJ4o-0zYYaZ72jGlzDp_5F1nxmQf3SP4Yctp9SdhtMbLW0lLeeCEDx6Z47sMHTt5OiZ2a3HsbNygRthDdrMCp_EA-C7vxmtFZIH46F3f6U2zd6s6PLw5uppufW2kPIrmebZr6aALA6g/s4032/IMG_5753.jpeg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTItWZ3pL0GekRbsr7aixpSIIVPi1obOhGeaeDSsti3KcaCT_CJ4o-0zYYaZ72jGlzDp_5F1nxmQf3SP4Yctp9SdhtMbLW0lLeeCEDx6Z47sMHTt5OiZ2a3HsbNygRthDdrMCp_EA-C7vxmtFZIH46F3f6U2zd6s6PLw5uppufW2kPIrmebZr6aALA6g/s320/IMG_5753.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>We are planning a thinking time about some of the products we create and are going to use winter as a time for reflection and hopefully feel inspired for some new ideas to make during spring. We are so pleased to be sending these little nests and book paper covered eggs to the lovely store in Cygnet, Tasmania - Cuckoo etc, in time for Easter. We've packed our 20 eggs of different sizes and papers carefully into a box ready for delivery and there are a few eggs available on our own bigcartel shop too. This time of year in Tasmania is a favourite of ours as the days are mild and the autumn light is beautifully gentle. And, of course, it is also a time when families have a small holiday and come together to celebrate Easter. We hope you are all looking forward to this lovely time of year and although we make easter eggs that are not made of chocolate, I can assure you we will also be indulging in some chocolate ones too!!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgARjIh0ldCZO5W9Rdk9sX15mCveX_lp7CCzWy4903tRDKeCHfQMN1LBiidD10pzLgXkBhKi-glB8BfekClDndepVSF_XeoefGB71P2wc-Se3WraWEoj45K1ATDfF-H5Bmeu2w5CKMfQdXVEI_kJ79cogJ950Dfm0i7V4EsM1vAr0R0tz-2kDhNT_SEQg/s4032/IMG_5534%202.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgARjIh0ldCZO5W9Rdk9sX15mCveX_lp7CCzWy4903tRDKeCHfQMN1LBiidD10pzLgXkBhKi-glB8BfekClDndepVSF_XeoefGB71P2wc-Se3WraWEoj45K1ATDfF-H5Bmeu2w5CKMfQdXVEI_kJ79cogJ950Dfm0i7V4EsM1vAr0R0tz-2kDhNT_SEQg/s320/IMG_5534%202.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /> </div><br /><p></p>two in a teacuphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18084982765685984412noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8998178740127639870.post-34040032665295358362023-01-06T22:35:00.003-08:002023-01-06T22:35:58.684-08:00A New Year Ahead!<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br />We hope that the festive season has been a healthy and happy one and that everyone is feeling relatively relaxed and in holiday mode now! The 'Two in a Teacup' studio is on our annual break and we are very thankful to all the lovely customers who ordered through our online shop and to those businesses who stocked some of our products in their stores. We have been so lucky to have continued support from our Tasmanian stockists: The Black Hen online store, Cuckoo-etc in Cygnet, Habeo in Battery Point, as well as our new stockist, Mr Wolf in Devonport. On the mainland we have some new stores who now stock some of our products including Town and Country Gallery in Yarragon, Victoria and Hearth Co. in Palm Beach, Sydney. We can't thank you all enough for supporting small, bespoke and handmade producers like us. <p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaa-BDz7x6LRhIomi_-vw9q2sfxH2451-rdGUlaODdm-a0OxWbbQ8T-q8SRB3Quge48QCS8r5D-bz-qwrXb5c-sEgaHOTyZzM_4Nm0Wj5p2LBM7UgjzKLqcHyjvc3Osfv1HG-od1b58R0vxtRw9nif_0ao1jqtumUM5vEZiwgfxFtoZUOpn4Z6nO5guA/s3024/IMG_5109.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiaa-BDz7x6LRhIomi_-vw9q2sfxH2451-rdGUlaODdm-a0OxWbbQ8T-q8SRB3Quge48QCS8r5D-bz-qwrXb5c-sEgaHOTyZzM_4Nm0Wj5p2LBM7UgjzKLqcHyjvc3Osfv1HG-od1b58R0vxtRw9nif_0ao1jqtumUM5vEZiwgfxFtoZUOpn4Z6nO5guA/s320/IMG_5109.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p>We hope very much that 2023 brings you a very happy, healthy and creative new year. </p>two in a teacuphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18084982765685984412noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8998178740127639870.post-39292657988399165292022-09-23T04:50:00.000-07:002022-09-23T04:50:00.269-07:00Gearing up for Christmas!<p style="text-align: justify;">We are in the process of adding some of our popular products to our Two in a Teacup Big Cartel Shop site to be ready for those people who like to be organised early for the Christmas season.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">There will be new stamped stones with images that are perfect for Christmas and we have just added a gorgeous large reindeer on a pale stone to the shop. We are also working on a series of shells including a seahorse for those having a beach holiday and who love all things beachy. Our special 'Heart Stones' are also a beautiful treasure to give as a gift to people you love and so we have been choosing lovely stones to paint with golden hearts ready to upload onto the shop. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">We are also busily creating our much loved vintage paper baubles and also introducing a new one that is diamond shaped. We have a large order to fill for the lovely shop Cuckoo Etc, in Cygnet, who are always happy to post anywhere in Australia and there will also be a select but limited range on our shop to purchase too. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">More 'Strings of Hearts' garlands are being made too for both Cuckoo Etc and our online store and we will be making text and music Swallow' garlands as well.</p><p style="text-align: justify;">The divine Black Hen online store will also have some of our specially created festive nests later in the year and these will add a unique Christmas touch to your home or to grace the Christmas table. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">Lastly, we have produced a new range of gift tags for the lovely homewares store 'Habeo' in Battery Point and these will also be available to purchase from our online shop.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqt94u9bwzTERedYEugNiZzqOZk9jlqT9NuWsQXH-m4FGvC0bYI2-KTn_GGO6D4rrigvYwcwANx8ImJWl1qGILLQfB4jYcGcqgnk7P63i_ZpGxcmPnf9jcm8Pt6jMw_sqq8wSUVmqm9HZW5-3N_4rFiIPvGn2dotjQC6khx1_Bb_l5nOLFmujtctIO4A/s4032/IMG_4492.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2195" data-original-width="4032" height="174" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjqt94u9bwzTERedYEugNiZzqOZk9jlqT9NuWsQXH-m4FGvC0bYI2-KTn_GGO6D4rrigvYwcwANx8ImJWl1qGILLQfB4jYcGcqgnk7P63i_ZpGxcmPnf9jcm8Pt6jMw_sqq8wSUVmqm9HZW5-3N_4rFiIPvGn2dotjQC6khx1_Bb_l5nOLFmujtctIO4A/s320/IMG_4492.jpeg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: justify;">It never ceases to amaze us how quickly we race along to the Christmas season! But nature is so resilient and there is evidence that Spring is just around the corner. As we walk our small cavoodle around the neighbourhood we are excited to see that there are bulbs popping up everywhere, blossom trees are flowering, dormant bushes are starting to burst into leaf and the sun is setting later each day. Along with the changes in the garden the birds are all starting to build their nests - there is quite a frenzy of activity!</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjddhR1MAuIKXAcSaQ41-3ugYw79PFm-YpwdPUaTXtNPPD70tz0SwgeocO5od83yVg9lPh_SPf_Ca0lPMOvTCLsL1521XFOfwEp7x5pFx9mfgkrjdNmHpYZ5Sif76sfLfuTVy15yUGm8Y7a-htRXRRndX6ScZBS02a6vin32hzb5Q6aFo0uPWznKMl_A/s4032/heartstone%20in%20nest.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="4032" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgjddhR1MAuIKXAcSaQ41-3ugYw79PFm-YpwdPUaTXtNPPD70tz0SwgeocO5od83yVg9lPh_SPf_Ca0lPMOvTCLsL1521XFOfwEp7x5pFx9mfgkrjdNmHpYZ5Sif76sfLfuTVy15yUGm8Y7a-htRXRRndX6ScZBS02a6vin32hzb5Q6aFo0uPWznKMl_A/s320/heartstone%20in%20nest.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><div><br /></div>So we are taking inspiration from the birds and have begun creating a new series of simple nests with a heart stone nestled inside. It has been a beautiful three months of quite settled, glorious days on the most part and now we look forward to the colours of autumn. It always amazes me how quickly we can feel the change of season in the air - leaves just starting to colour, the sun less intense, the days shortening and the light through our windows starting its journey deep into the house as the sun starts to become lower on the horizon. We have started our annual collection of pinecones and kindling which always makes me feel like a squirrel getting ready for winter! </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhXQ4OlqyhC9MEj2UEmFn1gn5gbB2pIm3dHBakNZS1FqWkfonFnSB4-ZojygKcmwsKVblIRxWAL_TeuBiglZMJt9RBqb3FN4RYqUps6hxokf-BaQoCsAYd2iRIwnARTGIxjkNwfy75HWFxEx-h8QTjAvyBnGqdZHbOPH-28i02iCBRyHYUwPCKN1DdknA=s3024" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="3024" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEhXQ4OlqyhC9MEj2UEmFn1gn5gbB2pIm3dHBakNZS1FqWkfonFnSB4-ZojygKcmwsKVblIRxWAL_TeuBiglZMJt9RBqb3FN4RYqUps6hxokf-BaQoCsAYd2iRIwnARTGIxjkNwfy75HWFxEx-h8QTjAvyBnGqdZHbOPH-28i02iCBRyHYUwPCKN1DdknA=s320" width="320" /></a></div><p style="text-align: justify;">As I write this post, my heart aches to think what the people of Ukraine must be going through on the other side of the world. On Kara Rosenlund's IG account today @kararosenlund she posted an amazing photograph taken on August 23, 1989 which showed 2 million people from Latvia, Estonia and Lithuania peacefully holding hands to form a human chain. The chain spanned 600km across 3 countries and helped save the Baltic States. Such an amazing show of unity and strength of the people - if only there was something we could do to show Ukranians that most of the world stand with them. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">Hoping for peace in the world and that you are all well as we navigate the next change of seasons.</p><p><br /></p>two in a teacuphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18084982765685984412noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8998178740127639870.post-68351169350846379752021-12-23T23:06:00.001-08:002021-12-23T23:06:34.051-08:00Festive Wishes<p>At this uncertain time in the world, where many are facing the continued difficulties of Covid-19, we just want to say that we hope you are able to find a small moment to breathe and hug someone close to you.</p><p>We wish everyone a safe and healthy Christmas.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi6PqZI88zIPYv4eZDDQ0kXmdz8X2PPAzw39DIfLcf0Phz89n2HxmXsYrXC5SonNaQTGGa2bYZYm5TppXygEZ1kyIyxDIjNXchwa_5NXYa2Fhl0BE-173Lx-xrlWWmRaZeuDV7uzptFqdrPJNZ1HtIvhoieqn8uoH4TZPru9put_3Im6vm-dclDxJKjyQ=s4032" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1878" data-original-width="4032" height="149" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEi6PqZI88zIPYv4eZDDQ0kXmdz8X2PPAzw39DIfLcf0Phz89n2HxmXsYrXC5SonNaQTGGa2bYZYm5TppXygEZ1kyIyxDIjNXchwa_5NXYa2Fhl0BE-173Lx-xrlWWmRaZeuDV7uzptFqdrPJNZ1HtIvhoieqn8uoH4TZPru9put_3Im6vm-dclDxJKjyQ=s320" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>two in a teacuphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18084982765685984412noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8998178740127639870.post-85996923077898322472021-10-19T06:00:00.021-07:002021-10-20T05:52:24.720-07:00Making Spoons<p>Recently I have been experimenting with collage and I have been making some 'spoons' incorporating my favourite vintage book papers and twigs. They are very much at the beginning stages but I have had so much fun creating these little spoons from repurposed card and papers.</p><p>Spoons have always been close to my heart. I have some treasured old spoons that were my mothers and I have lovely memories of spending time in the kitchen with her. I also have an old table spoon that was my grandmothers and I love that it is thinning on the edge from so much stirring. </p><p>For me, spoons are metaphors for nurturing, love, sharing and generosity. </p><p>I have included a photo of my experiments in spoon making thus far which you will see are unfinished but I thought you might like to see a progress shot. I am only at the beginning of this series of work so I am hoping to develop it further over the January holidays when I have a bit more time.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgafudd9zxpZNFv_OOfkvuv4-3_w62yV_eot4aT8HlhfHbHPYg0djUCENU7f6I1a5171r70IjRgVDPlNXjqVDojrBatUfcgwGUITNV36IDq-V-TETCAfVq6UO8T3IqEZOaXbbm2gWRoEPA0/s2048/IMG_3002.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="1536" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgafudd9zxpZNFv_OOfkvuv4-3_w62yV_eot4aT8HlhfHbHPYg0djUCENU7f6I1a5171r70IjRgVDPlNXjqVDojrBatUfcgwGUITNV36IDq-V-TETCAfVq6UO8T3IqEZOaXbbm2gWRoEPA0/s320/IMG_3002.jpeg" width="240" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>two in a teacuphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18084982765685984412noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8998178740127639870.post-77941652397062746502021-05-12T04:07:00.002-07:002021-05-12T04:07:52.756-07:00Collections - A 50 year old collection of birds eggs <p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhITFjNboxZEWFK_8axSvy_q3HJPBV-jLQ7z7CeKYld_hJiAf-LmM9FY005McQv3JalDs4s4jyXzEPnIoSmz9aQbuPQppkLehALCLbUSGg2Nakn7rbOmSO3stA7eyaSy4ce14P3oPQRxQpy/s2048/IMG_2600.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhITFjNboxZEWFK_8axSvy_q3HJPBV-jLQ7z7CeKYld_hJiAf-LmM9FY005McQv3JalDs4s4jyXzEPnIoSmz9aQbuPQppkLehALCLbUSGg2Nakn7rbOmSO3stA7eyaSy4ce14P3oPQRxQpy/s320/IMG_2600.jpeg" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p>Recently a lovely old friend of ours bequeathed me his childhood egg collection housed in a gorgeous old tin. He had been an avid young scientist as a boy growing up in Europe before moving to Tasmania and knowing my fascination and love of birds and their nests he thought I would appreciate them. How right he was!</p><p>A few have old labels that he had stuck on with sticky tape - old and yellowing now, but I rather like them. Most are small blue, white, speckled or brownish eggs but there is one large Black Guillemot egg which is rather extraordinary. From a medium-sized seabird found throughout the northern Atlantic coasts it has a rather amazing dark colouration on the base of the egg which also has quite a pointed shape at the narrower end.</p><p><br /></p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoEVt_1Raes9ExUqVOq9uXPhQcJ1KGaZuhomnqUv7J8qd1d5VKyKGJc9_IxGC8RqU-ncEiTlbhyTirqE4Sg9PA7Kj8AhNjudwLVgwmSrjBnMxCGORyVmfmhEb0eM7mitKOXl6q1mT_GcGu/s2048/IMG_2592.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoEVt_1Raes9ExUqVOq9uXPhQcJ1KGaZuhomnqUv7J8qd1d5VKyKGJc9_IxGC8RqU-ncEiTlbhyTirqE4Sg9PA7Kj8AhNjudwLVgwmSrjBnMxCGORyVmfmhEb0eM7mitKOXl6q1mT_GcGu/w200-h200/IMG_2592.jpeg" width="200" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoZrKqn8UX1dF7ohJjJOAdefM2q-LjKlUx1D1TCjIu7NFcVSYDOVEYKmeDYCSBm4A6sOFPAEpC8VpQIMESy1ExIDWhcgAU_20kNaRO6_CZB3_OmQuHi6HFO1Xln3vdN5mAF8pqL1FXvsmc/s2048/IMG_2591.jpeg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgoZrKqn8UX1dF7ohJjJOAdefM2q-LjKlUx1D1TCjIu7NFcVSYDOVEYKmeDYCSBm4A6sOFPAEpC8VpQIMESy1ExIDWhcgAU_20kNaRO6_CZB3_OmQuHi6HFO1Xln3vdN5mAF8pqL1FXvsmc/w200-h200/IMG_2591.jpeg" width="200" /></a></p><p style="text-align: justify;">These eggs are incredibly fragile and so at this stage I will leave them just as they were given to me - carefully nestled into the tin box with shredded red and old burnished glassine paper until I find a more suitable storage arrangement. I think I will try to research the different kinds of eggs that are not labelled and investigate what the bird and their nests are like which will be really interesting to do. Our local museum has some wonderful old egg collections that I may be able to use for my research. The latest ones have just been picked up by Julie @theblackhen who photographs them so beautifully for her online store and has been selling them for us for over five years. We also sell them through Kylie @crazybeautifulhomewares in New South Wales in her lovely bricks and mortar store. Natalie @nestonrisby in Ulverstone also has a boutique bricks and mortar store where she has a range of our small aromatherapy and botanical inspired little nests. It was in her earlier store in Penguin in 2012 that we first started selling our nests.</span></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpeey7nNUKRvL3Psmfo8jyrdoJIITR5zO5I-h7TZ7QoprA0CeteLlbfO5b82sXJNWA-vvmdrW9hRLXyzNB6aXDppBLemSZpmr0eLiMadP1bX7O73cgk0nGXde1uXgPO8oETNPKVrb9iLcZ/s2048/IMG_2139.jpeg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><span> </span><span> </span><span> </span><span> </span><span> </span><span> </span><span> </span><span> </span><span> </span><span> </span><span> <span> </span> </span><img border="0" data-original-height="2048" data-original-width="2048" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpeey7nNUKRvL3Psmfo8jyrdoJIITR5zO5I-h7TZ7QoprA0CeteLlbfO5b82sXJNWA-vvmdrW9hRLXyzNB6aXDppBLemSZpmr0eLiMadP1bX7O73cgk0nGXde1uXgPO8oETNPKVrb9iLcZ/s320/IMG_2139.jpeg" /></a></div><p></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><p style="text-align: justify;">For these nests we have walked on the mountain and on bush tracks and have gathered all sorts of found treasures from nature to build and construct them. There are always so many enjoyable things to do - organise presents, meet friends, write cards, try to catch the post in time and of course make our own homes look festive. If you are anything like us, we say every year that we must try to simplify everything next Christmas!! This year has made us all 'pause' more than usual and so in our home we are trying think carefully about what we really need to be doing to bring joy to all we know and keep our focus on the simple and really important things about Christmas. </div><p></p><p>We have begun drying orange slices ready to string them up across our windows with pine cones and small branches of fir tree. As you can see in this photo some of the slices of orange stayed in the oven too long so they are rather burnished! We have decided that they will bring a lovely range of tones to our natural garland!</p><p>We have also been making quite a few nests and, as per the previous posts, many many vintage paper baubles to send off to our lovely customers. Our last orders have now been posted and so we are excited to begin decorating our home with our favourite old Christmas decorations hanging on the tree and a good sprinkling of tiny fairy lights and candles throughout our rooms. I can almost smell the scent of the pine tree! </p><p>Hoping you are also enjoying creating your festive home this Christmas. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCOXp-neGcnBG0y3oRr5o-Duf8zPwbAXeCeZpJjXwBqUtgq0-spjpv1slntPJ4cXToSpgT54HfylkjMnFI27AXGuNqLaIgJGTytDb2QKeTZza3DiAtPLBaokXlntfQKMZfJtkEh_IVP-8a/s634/nest+Dec+20.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="634" data-original-width="634" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCOXp-neGcnBG0y3oRr5o-Duf8zPwbAXeCeZpJjXwBqUtgq0-spjpv1slntPJ4cXToSpgT54HfylkjMnFI27AXGuNqLaIgJGTytDb2QKeTZza3DiAtPLBaokXlntfQKMZfJtkEh_IVP-8a/w400-h400/nest+Dec+20.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>two in a teacuphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18084982765685984412noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8998178740127639870.post-53393968665228078252020-08-26T06:17:00.002-07:002020-08-26T06:17:21.395-07:00Happy customers make happy makers!<p style="text-align: justify;">Recently we have been reminded of the pleasure we get from our lovely customers who send us images of their "two in a teacup" purchases. Although we only post on Instagram intermittently and our handmade products are labour intensive to create so that we only have a small production rate, we love making them and are so, so pleased when they are enjoyed by our customers too. </p><p style="text-align: justify;">We sent a tiny nest, some vintage paper baubles and gift tags to the mainland a little while ago and we were touched to see this lovely photo of our wares so delightfully displayed when they were unpacked.</p><p style="text-align: justify;"><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_UDWeZulOWUntwFbvB6DrXsxTKHarNJAptiKIbSNIURpUke4oodeu-OX73CQ1_kP2tvtvwNwtZfJWMZjXWLJr3VMBt9cgEZ-tdn6MzyCFSLLbMmEkkBB1EdsJAaRgeQXGvA7lexNdoCPv/s620/0.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="620" data-original-width="473" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj_UDWeZulOWUntwFbvB6DrXsxTKHarNJAptiKIbSNIURpUke4oodeu-OX73CQ1_kP2tvtvwNwtZfJWMZjXWLJr3VMBt9cgEZ-tdn6MzyCFSLLbMmEkkBB1EdsJAaRgeQXGvA7lexNdoCPv/s0/0.jpg" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>two in a teacuphttp://www.blogger.com/profile/18084982765685984412noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8998178740127639870.post-54457214342791801682020-07-22T07:11:00.001-07:002020-07-22T07:11:27.684-07:00Winter<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
What a year 2020 is turning out to be! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Firstly, we hope that you and your family and friends are all staying safe and well. At the start of Winter (June in the Southern Hemisphere) an article I wrote was published in the Black Hen's lovely e-magazine. The article is about how we are supporting each other in our communities during this time of lockdown, isolation and social distancing and this is the link if you are keen to read it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<a href="http://www.theblackhen.com/the-black-hen-magazine">http://www.theblackhen.com/the-black-hen-magazine</a> The whole magazine makes for some great reading and is full of creative ideas and wonderful recipes, images and stories.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFHVCHFfuL_pFWkQ2sJQ_2M_sxO9hc7vuM8eMNvkB8OhOHt12KLhjB5xCiDon7p-odJokEtZu1U-gWaNvHugMcjJKOc_qLGfm5G5Kn4lWuWy2J2CGVxF7gV-Nb9ye2AaHzn6PtZKhLzhwf/s1600/baubles.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="585" data-original-width="585" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiFHVCHFfuL_pFWkQ2sJQ_2M_sxO9hc7vuM8eMNvkB8OhOHt12KLhjB5xCiDon7p-odJokEtZu1U-gWaNvHugMcjJKOc_qLGfm5G5Kn4lWuWy2J2CGVxF7gV-Nb9ye2AaHzn6PtZKhLzhwf/s320/baubles.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
During June and July we have been busy making our vintage paper covered eggs and have begun creating a range of nests ready for Spring. As you know we love re-purposing old books and so we have also started making our vintage paper baubles. It is early for us to be thinking about Christmas at this stage of the year but this is turning out to be such an extraordinary year, so engaging in the making process seems to be a really positive thing to do.We hope that you too have some creative projects underway. Stay safe and well.</div>

Hi everyone,<br />
I have taken a series of photos of each stage in making a 3D paper egg and I will try to explain the process so that the images make sense. Please let me know if it is too hard to understand and I will attempt to make a little video showing the process and upload it here. I took the photos at night so I apologise for their colouration! I definitely need to up-skill in the technology sphere!!<br />
<br />
To start an egg you need to select thin paper as it is easier to cut through at the end. I used an old dictionary so something similar is good to work with or even tissue paper sheets.You will also need a ruler, stanley knife, glue stick, needle and thread or thin twine, a piece of card or thick paper to cut out an oval shape stencil and an awl or sharp thick needle to pierce through the glued sheets of paper at the end. A cutting mat is also useful.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUh2U3nquw5dzhKF9uwhxcqdeUFGFdDnN-poaHgyygWqojSOLeq8bO-8KrjnZpYjb0fVBpQPcBcSjEYGoRkaxArageMl1d5TnlyzZF08jZykJEJsqgnfZhoz3hTtwAyPJ73z8_3GIGlYGv/s1600/1-9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="585" data-original-width="780" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjUh2U3nquw5dzhKF9uwhxcqdeUFGFdDnN-poaHgyygWqojSOLeq8bO-8KrjnZpYjb0fVBpQPcBcSjEYGoRkaxArageMl1d5TnlyzZF08jZykJEJsqgnfZhoz3hTtwAyPJ73z8_3GIGlYGv/s200/1-9.jpg" width="200" /></a> You will need at least 30 - 35 sheets depending on how fluted you want the final egg to be. One dictionary page can be cut in half for the size egg I made. (see image) I used 32 sheets glued together and the block was big enough to cut out two egg templates that could be joined together to make one egg or perhaps two simpler eggs. Keeping it to 30-35 sheets makes it manageable to cut through for the egg shape so that the two halves can then be put together to form one full egg. If your paper is very thin, like tissue paper, you could glue more layers together and it will still be easy to cut through.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG0ZfgCnFn8MYtdT5jXZLcY39hOd7MTLZmBvrWvEoYQIWD4Vyteb9XPUvui43R2kkU6pPjjXB1SX7o0GG73LBY9ta-iqyLCCL1tlNaYPK5eplPiMgSqw2E1rXumfvBulqI8QbUvJ7mMnD5/s1600/1-5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="585" data-original-width="780" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhG0ZfgCnFn8MYtdT5jXZLcY39hOd7MTLZmBvrWvEoYQIWD4Vyteb9XPUvui43R2kkU6pPjjXB1SX7o0GG73LBY9ta-iqyLCCL1tlNaYPK5eplPiMgSqw2E1rXumfvBulqI8QbUvJ7mMnD5/s200/1-5.jpg" width="200" /></a> </div>
On a plain sheet of paper begin by drawing around the paper you are making the egg from. This gives you a marker for placement. Then mark the template with a line down the middle and just in from the edge (approximately a centimetre) on either side. These are my red marks in the photo below. Then make a line in the middle of either side - see my green marks on the image three below. All these markers indicate where you will run the glue down.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXjFyCKo6E0LJJP77p58GLWOOVHxOz7CjEQmqRTGOAIZkBKbIwUq4QRbu4BmtupfmWqUUFtLHJbQPeQmO1WlZOJuoITkkSDTfYZCajyysviL5JK9jQkpw71xHVCwsB-8X0Z1vXctvnv0Ao/s1600/1-6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="585" data-original-width="780" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXjFyCKo6E0LJJP77p58GLWOOVHxOz7CjEQmqRTGOAIZkBKbIwUq4QRbu4BmtupfmWqUUFtLHJbQPeQmO1WlZOJuoITkkSDTfYZCajyysviL5JK9jQkpw71xHVCwsB-8X0Z1vXctvnv0Ao/s200/1-6.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
Now the process of gluing the sheets of paper begins. Start by running a glue line down the two red outside marks and down the centre line and lay a sheet of paper directly on top smoothing over the glued lines. Next glue down the two green marker lines and place another piece of paper on top making sure it is stuck to the one below. Continue this process alternating the green and then red glue lines until all sheets of paper glued together.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3e4Rj6zAFGsu02EGYdB8b36EfQC1jLejhPYkeKQ10R6f0pCWMbEt_LUGQbbY5YcP8U0Mwy63YuznCXgqUdCzUOt9ZzcNMcg5imOiyvpuaq6nGTHOEgcFXsQV0h6zfm0G1NorISl4nxO8J/s1600/1-8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="585" data-original-width="780" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3e4Rj6zAFGsu02EGYdB8b36EfQC1jLejhPYkeKQ10R6f0pCWMbEt_LUGQbbY5YcP8U0Mwy63YuznCXgqUdCzUOt9ZzcNMcg5imOiyvpuaq6nGTHOEgcFXsQV0h6zfm0G1NorISl4nxO8J/s200/1-8.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
When all the sheets are together, cut a half oval shape out of folded card or paper. This is the template of the egg shape. You can check that it is a pleasing oval shape by opening it out. It should be as long as the glued block of paper so that when the half egg shape is cut out the end glued lines are not right on the edge. (See image)<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi85zeM3dlxHOTd62odorqTDcsJIY15_PR7Wyw8fjHXJYpTveYIWmk58ihVgwPNUsv2OzOfKZFKkTINEdZi2XtyIabPf7plS6HAUAUg3S-RKlKqx_EYIUvxs_GBbsjP3dHW4eY_ClrpaL0S/s1600/1-10.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="585" data-original-width="770" height="151" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi85zeM3dlxHOTd62odorqTDcsJIY15_PR7Wyw8fjHXJYpTveYIWmk58ihVgwPNUsv2OzOfKZFKkTINEdZi2XtyIabPf7plS6HAUAUg3S-RKlKqx_EYIUvxs_GBbsjP3dHW4eY_ClrpaL0S/s200/1-10.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
Next line the template along the edge of the glued paper block and draw around the shape. Note - I was able to fit two template shapes onto my paper block.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ_srAOA6ndQiLjkRq2pe_VmRzlsWnwEH5dVoRP8n_tAU1jentSxS2j8Gu7ZopHdKIC6OLT_NaWXG9fV3Q0BGd2MUT_A_nEizvqI92CLsaAl6P1UQqBRHT9qu6VtCQ_h7NC54hfRtclNY5/s1600/1-11.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="585" data-original-width="780" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ_srAOA6ndQiLjkRq2pe_VmRzlsWnwEH5dVoRP8n_tAU1jentSxS2j8Gu7ZopHdKIC6OLT_NaWXG9fV3Q0BGd2MUT_A_nEizvqI92CLsaAl6P1UQqBRHT9qu6VtCQ_h7NC54hfRtclNY5/s200/1-11.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
Using a sharp stanley knife carefully cut around the drawn template shape(s).<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigiyksCEHlJOx4HNhriaCWMm2QqSnfZs-1WrUSW4IQ-w5rm6B-SW8E_dP6dU4XzZuW9f5VxJqhY7bzNjEaerFKGHCsiuzIUuqYSlCf3256ifAmHJf5y82VusiZDjAez8HZW-WauQQMXYA6/s1600/1-12.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="585" data-original-width="780" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigiyksCEHlJOx4HNhriaCWMm2QqSnfZs-1WrUSW4IQ-w5rm6B-SW8E_dP6dU4XzZuW9f5VxJqhY7bzNjEaerFKGHCsiuzIUuqYSlCf3256ifAmHJf5y82VusiZDjAez8HZW-WauQQMXYA6/s200/1-12.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
If you are joining the two cut shapes together for a fuller egg check which glue lines you need to make by looking at the last ones on each half then press the two halves together. If you have used a thinner paper and do not need to glue the two sides together you are up to the next step.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO7duI9rDlYCrgQmBlTHJC3gUA4kdMugEdd7Bj7fJMkVu1tvo4kKKTNSrpPn-j6jrELhD4yoVRF7gU_Zkh2j8eEJb_IEQWkhcEHqBMdRXT-yHXchwswdQ9ZeWJLIr-4FzXblobLlVUynqI/s1600/1-13.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="585" data-original-width="760" height="153" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgO7duI9rDlYCrgQmBlTHJC3gUA4kdMugEdd7Bj7fJMkVu1tvo4kKKTNSrpPn-j6jrELhD4yoVRF7gU_Zkh2j8eEJb_IEQWkhcEHqBMdRXT-yHXchwswdQ9ZeWJLIr-4FzXblobLlVUynqI/s200/1-13.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
Now you are ready to pierce two holes just in from the corner on each side. You can see how the sharp point has gone through to the other side on the right and the spot for the left hole is marked with a dot. Make sure these holes are clear all the way through and hold the paper together tightly so it doesn't move or slip while you pierce it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjToYFKmfi7vPhvFvkRFdj44HHmPQ91SRKAP21fMS6UxMLQnIlzBTeJNP07wGHRVzt5hvPeyukSl7U1sR5px8_GOfYjRyNwYFdLPnU7N2w9geQLnezPrFOuqYsKVtXwZiJlumFNCAwaUTzX/s1600/1-16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="585" data-original-width="749" height="155" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjToYFKmfi7vPhvFvkRFdj44HHmPQ91SRKAP21fMS6UxMLQnIlzBTeJNP07wGHRVzt5hvPeyukSl7U1sR5px8_GOfYjRyNwYFdLPnU7N2w9geQLnezPrFOuqYsKVtXwZiJlumFNCAwaUTzX/s200/1-16.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
The next step is to thread a needle with cotton and thread it through <u>each</u> ends and tying it off loosely leaving about a little finger thickness loop from the hole. The thread loop needs to be loose enough to allow the paper to open out to form the egg. If it is too tight the egg wont have enough room to curl around to form the 3D shape.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7lX8JXBGtOl0x8pWcPuDeQ2V1yIL7PPMdJpFpbGd7BOSYq7b0olA1hhIflJpk0BBM4vT-lHG_hrRHohg0JaJ1us-SO1DhgMCDNhPLtbmFh1_vQueRTMLOfo14wg9RvUqKfMIEfLCuFPdg/s1600/1-15.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="585" data-original-width="780" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7lX8JXBGtOl0x8pWcPuDeQ2V1yIL7PPMdJpFpbGd7BOSYq7b0olA1hhIflJpk0BBM4vT-lHG_hrRHohg0JaJ1us-SO1DhgMCDNhPLtbmFh1_vQueRTMLOfo14wg9RvUqKfMIEfLCuFPdg/s200/1-15.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Now you are ready to reveal the egg! Take both sides and open it out. I usually tuck the cotton ends into the egg before I glue both sides together but if you wish to hang it you can use the ends of the knot to do this.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPiUhSh_iFO1uTzu3W0IgGURCVlItqJZq9TVH3R09_nCT2VOtVonZAFdu6vEomhUYmZ_2XMO-YPR7N0x4GOzWr9Iq00hrBwcYHkqrM0Hw4dh0w_SDQxjArFeUSjoZiKtCH6LkVfg9SUgn4/s1600/1-14.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="585" data-original-width="758" height="153" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPiUhSh_iFO1uTzu3W0IgGURCVlItqJZq9TVH3R09_nCT2VOtVonZAFdu6vEomhUYmZ_2XMO-YPR7N0x4GOzWr9Iq00hrBwcYHkqrM0Hw4dh0w_SDQxjArFeUSjoZiKtCH6LkVfg9SUgn4/s200/1-14.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>
<br />
This last image shows both sides being pulled together after the last lines of glue have been applied. Check which lines will continue the pattern before closing the egg - and there you have it!!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
Do let me know if you are able to follow these instructions or if you need any further help. Have fun making your eggs and of course this technique also looks wonderful if you change the shape - circle, tree, bell, diamond!<br />
<br />
Good luck. xx<br />

<br />
<br />
To be honest I am not sure what the new normal will look like as we all grapple with the uncertainty of life in a Covid-19 world. I hope where ever you are that you and your loved ones are safe and well.<br />
<br />
In Tasmania we are just bracing ourselves for lockdown - all stores and businesses have closed except the essential ones and the cases of people diagnosed with the virus are beginning to climb. So... how do we manage our lives in this new state of being?<br />
<br />
For our family, we have begun to hunker down at home and make lists of some of the things we think we can still achieve while we are home based. Of course this includes cleaning out cupboards, sorting through things that have been waiting for a rainy day as well as tasks that we have been putting off for some time! In reality we will probably be reading books and planning meals to enjoy! My daughter and I are beginning to work on some creative projects and one that we have joined is a free online series of workshops called <b>'Sketchbook Revival 2020'</b>, by Karen Abend.<br />
<a href="https://www.karenabend.com/sketchbook-revival-2020/">https://www.karenabend.com/sketchbook-revival-2020/</a> This course only started on March 23 and you will have access to the videos for a month. It offers a range of artists who will be sharing their skills with specific tasks for participants to engage in. Check it out as it looks a lot of fun.<br />
<br />
On another note I have included a link to a lovely e-magazine that is free to access and which makes for some interesting reading about nature, cooking, artists and makers and lots of heartfelt stories. It is the third edition of '<b>The Black Hen</b>' magazine and I feel very fortunate to have been able to contribute to this Autumn edition and the earlier Summer one. Here is the link <a href="http://www.theblackhen.com/the-black-hen-magazine">http://www.theblackhen.com/the-black-hen-magazine</a> <br />
<br />
Stay well and safe as we all charter a course through this changing world. I am hoping to share some of the ways we are spending our days as we learn how to be house bound and stay positive. It would be lovely to hear about some of the things you are all doing to adapt to our new normal at the moment.<br />
<br />
See you again soon,<br />

<br />
As you saw in our last post we have begun making small batches of our eggs again and recently I started bringing back some images of rabbits again as Easter draws near. We love being able to re-use old book papers in these little treasures and have also been incorporating decorative collage elements on some of the eggs. It is so lovely to see the variation in the aged papers we use - some are quite pale while others are darker with soft earthy tones. Some of the new eggs will be available on our bigcartel shop which can be accessed through the link on this blog.<br />

It is the 30th of December 2019 and I find myself asking how can this be the end of another year? We hope yours has been a happy and healthy one and that you are ready and excited for the start of the next decade! Here at 'Two in a Teacup' we have plans to update our blog and shop site over January and give thought to some new products that are on the drawing board. </div>

In November this year I was honoured to be asked to write a small piece for the second edition of The Black Hen Magazine. This is a beautiful online publication and includes many articles from artists and makers as well as on gardening, food and styling ideas. I wrote about the nests I make, the inspiration behind them and some ideas on creating your own nest. The photograph below was taken by Julie of The Black Hen and is included in my article in the magazine. If you haven't seen this publication yet this is the link that will take you to The Black Hen site where you can download a copy <a href="http://www.theblackhen.com/the-black-hen-magazine">http://www.theblackhen.com/the-black-hen-magazine</a></div>

Earlier in December we sent off an order of our vintage paper eggs to one of our lovely stockists - Crazy Beautiful Life - Homewares and this time each egg had an added collage image. We used various birds, leaves and nest images to embellish the text covered eggs.</div>

Our living room this Christmas season smells deliciously of pine tree. We love a real tree and the ritual of bringing out the box of decorations each year to dress the tree is one of our favourite parts of Christmas . We hope you have all enjoyed your Christmas festivities this year and we wish you the very best for the coming year ahead.</div>

I have always been interested in studios and work spaces of artists and makers so I have included a couple of photos of the area I use to work in. We live in a tiny home so I use a corner of our living space as our studio to build nests and create our other products. Although it is a very small space, I actually enjoy being in the heart of the home and I am lucky that this area is filled with light most of the day. </div>

On one end of a long table there is a collection of natural found objects that I work with or collections that provide inspiration while the other half of the table is kept clear for making. If the truth be known I have various baskets and boxes under the table to store all sorts of other materials and also a set of map drawers in another room for paper and other art materials. It is tricky when your home is tiny but as long as there is a table with good light, anywhere can be a good place to create - even the kitchen table! Although I always dream of having a designated studio space, at this stage it will have to stay a dream and I will just continue to inhabit every nook and cranny of our house!!</div>

My fascination with stones and pebbles started as a child and, like everyone else, I absolutely love the feeling of a warm stone in my hands and the weight and smoothness that is so satisfying and reassuring. My collection stems from all corners of our beautiful island and they have become markers and keepsakes of times spent at each place with my family.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgZTSTuJKhn2LePqjDAi1rOakX3GyrHvnP_k3ot4MLOkNqGYSvZZiX6eq90QZnSswBfpmeSWRIBKgeB_I1pWFW8eRIX2AXGDe7LfPdfrnlX6HhWAuJKgCI6XgcYz4UfjhkJ9Btmw9N-e1w/s1600/stones+.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="304" data-original-width="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgZTSTuJKhn2LePqjDAi1rOakX3GyrHvnP_k3ot4MLOkNqGYSvZZiX6eq90QZnSswBfpmeSWRIBKgeB_I1pWFW8eRIX2AXGDe7LfPdfrnlX6HhWAuJKgCI6XgcYz4UfjhkJ9Btmw9N-e1w/s1600/stones+.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
It was a natural progression to begin working onto them with imagery so I began stamping using permanent inks and was surprised at how long the images remain intact. I have also enjoyed painting onto stones and have an older collection of various designs dotted around the house. Recently I decided I should include some of the painted stones in my online store to accompany the stamped stones and the ones that have a golden heart painted on them. Keep an eye out in the next few weeks for new stones arriving on our online store.<br />
<br />
When my daughters were little I had plans to paint a small stone with a gentle kind face on them so that the stone could be a pocket friend and be held closely where ever they were. Unfortunately, I didn't quite follow through with this idea at the time but perhaps now might be the time to bring this idea to life? My grandmother always said it is never too late!<br />
