Everyday

'Make something everyday even if it's small.
The act of creating is often a form of meditation.
It nourishes the soul and clears the mind for new ideas to form.'

I read this somewhere recently and was immediately struck with an 'ah ha' moment. Everyone's lives get so busy that, sometimes, we forget how nourishing it is to take, even a few minutes of the day, to 'create' something. My day today is filled with a trillion chores and commitments to complete, so I pondered for a while - what could I create on such a frantic day ? I sat and contemplated, looking at our collecting shelf. This small image brought a moment of quiet to an otherwise hectic day. Sometimes it can be just the act of slowing down for a moment and seeing the beauty of small objects around you, that can fulfil that creative daily act.

Change

Time seems to be racing by and the fallen leaves are a reminder that the beauty and colour of Autumn will soon be a memory as Winter takes its place.   I am hoping warm fires and cosy days inside will bring inspiration and creativity over the cooler months ahead.

Spring !

It is nesting time again.

The birds are getting busy in the garden and I am making some larger nests using twigs to give some added structure.  I love this season. With the warmer days I feel inspired to create, imagine and of course enjoy the garden.  Hope you are too!

Maps, Maps, Maps

If I can't travel the world I can use the world in my work!  Old atlas pages and maps are becoming swallows as I make garland sets for 'The Maker'.

Pages of text from old vintage books make swallows that are ready to fly across walls! I have simply packaged them in a transparent stitched envelope.

Paper flowers

A friend recently asked me to make her some paper flowers and two small eggs.  She is going to use them to create a mobile for a new 'little poppet' she knows, that was born quite prematurely. On the eggs I have stamped her name and the words cherish and love - now I can't wait to see the mobile come together.

The days are cooling off now and autumn is beginning to reveal its splendour. Perhaps something inspired by autumn will be on the making table next!

I have been making text, map and music eggs for a couple of shops since last Easter but recently I found some really large eggs and created a special one as part of a wedding present for a relative.

Then, of course, I had to cover one in text!

Swallow garlands have also been in demand lately so I have been busy cutting and stitching them from text and maps.

Now it is back to more egg making ready for Easter coming up!
